Topics we’ll study this week:

Reading: our reading book story is one chapter from the book Justin and the Best Biscuits in the World by Mildred P. Walter.  We’ll study story settings, vocabulary words and have a 15 question quiz on this story.  We read the story twice in class before the quiz. Reading book pages are 22 – 39.  Reading workbook pages are 1 – 10.  Time is given during reading class for reading and for doing the workbook pages.  Homework is finishing any assignment not completed during class time.  Your child may take home the story and read to you as this might help him on the quiz. If your child asks you questions about the reading workbook page, help him think through the questions.

Religion: our stories this week are about creation Genesis 1:1 - 2:3, the fall into sin Genesis 3, and the family of Adam Genesis 4.  Our workbook pages this week are 8 – 11.  Our workbooks have fill-in the blank activities about our stories.  The paragraphs above each fill-in the blank activity are outstanding Bible truths.  You could use them for family devotions. We study each story for 2 days.  This may change as we establish a routine.  We also read our memory verse each day.  Each student listed two people he prays for, for our classroom chart.  We pray each day.  Wednesday is our chapel day.  We begin at 8:45.  Join us if it works out.  Homework: memory verses as we have quizzes on Tuesdays and Fridays.  If a student is absent the story and workbook pages we did in class.

Writing: our time is spent this week making lists.  We write each day.  We find out what is important to each other (who would make a list about something they didn’t like?). We share our writing with a partner.  Writing lists isn’t as daunting as writing stories.   Writing is how some students learn to read and I consider it part of our reading class.  Homework: if a student is absent, he needs to write in his writing spiral for the day or days he missed.

Social Studies: we are looking at our own community within Albuquerque. We are finding our community on the large map in the hallway, in a travel booklet which names the different communities, and on a small 8 1/2 x 14 maps.  We are looking at the travel booklet to find interesting places in Albuquerque.  We are choosing the 8 most interesting. We are writing about Albuquerque 50 years from now.   If our workbook pages are not completed during class time, those can be finished at home.  The pages we are doing are 34, 36, 37, 38, 40, 41, and the bottom part of page 42.

Books: each student needs to have a book he is reading at his desk at all times.

Books from home are welcome.

Library:  Students can check out 3 books.  I need to check how many weeks before they are over due.  These books can be read in the classroom or at home.

Not all of the students liked the books in the classroom tubs.  These books can NOT be taken home.

The first two days showed me the patience and kindnesses of your children. This is an outstanding group! Because God first loves us, we can love and be kind to others.
