Competitive Cheerleading

Most people have never heard of Competitive Cheerleading , but if you have you may just think its for football or basketball. Well, its not! Competitive cheerleading has an edge. This means that it is not at all the same as YAFL or other football or basketball cheerleading. Have you ever been to a National Competition? Well if you have, then you've seen the reason for competitive teams. Many competitive teams live for big-time Nationals. It's like Hollywood, but for cheerleaders!

A lot of people think cheerleading is super safe, and not a sport because you can't get hurt. Well, they are wrong. Many injuries occur, and some can be extremely terrible. Some of the most common injuries are sprains, but some involve the breaking of bones. Tearing your ACL is unfortunately very common as well. A lot of these injuries happen when you are stunting. For those of you who don't know what stunting is, it consists of "flying" girls up in the air. As scary as that sounds it's really not. If you have bases (lifters) ,and backspots (helpers) who know what they are doing then you shouldn't be scared. But, basically stunting is fun and a major crowd-thriller. So if you are ever going to stunt make sure an adult is present and you are being safe! Here are some pictures of cheerleaders.

This stunt is called a scorpian.

This stunt is called a meatball/extension prep.

This stunt is an extension/stomach stand.
