Have you ever run a mile? Have you ever been on a track team? Well I have. My name is Rashell. I am on the school track team. I run long distances. When I first joined track I hated the long distances. I could only do sprints. My coach prepared us to run long distances.
In track you don't just run you can also do shotput, long jump
and triple jump. These are sime of the field events included in track. My
personal favorite of these is running long jump to see Mike Powell's
long jump click here
(7min long) Mike Powell's jump
The last time I went to a track meet I did the long jump. I only jumped 9ft 2in. Mike Powell jumped way further than I did though. Mike Powell is only one long jump person with a record. The person with the world record for women long jump is Galina Chistyakova from the Soviet Union. The world record for the mile for men is Hicham El Guerrouj from Morocco. He completed this task in 3:43.13. I think just looking at these world records is amazing. It also shows that anyone from anywhere can set a record and fufill their dreams.Click here to see more world records
Now it is time to tell you about the meets themselves. In a usual meet you can sign up for 2 races, one relay, and 1 field event. They call out "First call for mile," you come and stand at the starting line for that race. They usually call the mile race first. During the meet people can go and do the long jump or triple jump at any time. I have only been in track for awhile and have only been in a few meets. The order of events in the meet is really easy to get a hold of. Track meets are fun and exciting.
There are many exciting fun events in track we just have to find them and then sign up. You will be amazed at what you will find.
Running is fun and keeps you healthy. You meet new people, and get awards. So next time your school if is putting together a track team I hope you sign up for all the fun and exciting things in track. I hope next year I will be racing you.
